Education experts agree that third grade reading proficiency is one of the best predictors of achievement in subsequent years…….children must learn to read in order to read to learn…..if a child is behind in reading by the end of third grade, it is unlikely that he or she will ever catch up!

What is The Big Lift? 43% of third graders on the Coastside are not reading at grade level. This figure rises to 65% for more economically disadvantaged Latino, African American and Pacific Islander third graders.

The Big Lift is a multi-pronged effort to close the achievement gap by providing programs for: pre-school, attendance improvement, summer retention of learning and one on one reading mentoring.

Please, VOTE NOW for The Big Lift!
